So Close, Yet So Far Away - 2

In 1977, my family moved to Tien Shan Mansion, Taikoo Shing and we lived there until early 1990s. We were probably one of the tenants who moved into this private housing estate at the very early phase of its construction. In 1977, large private housing estate was not very popular in Hong Kong and Taikoo Shing could be regarded as a pioneer. It had many amenities and offered a lot of leisure space for its residents; a wonderful place for dwelling. I had a lot of good times and beautiful memories there.

I was surprised to find out after 20030401 that Leslie had lived in Taikoo Shing in and before 1983/84. How come we had never come across each other? But perhaps we had, just that I did not recognize him.  At that time, he was not very popular since the hit song“Monica” had not come out as yet.

In one of Leslie's movies, the "Nomad" filmed in 1982, a scene was shot in Taikoo Shing. The scene was when Leslie (playing the role Louis in the film) decorated the record store and eventually got into a fight with Tong Chun Yip. That store was in Taikoo Shing, right beside the bus terminal below the shopping mall. If the world was perfect, I should have known about the shooting of the film and then gone there and taken a peek at him there. But….. it never happened. That's fate.

So close, yet so far.
